October 3-10, 2025 To Annapolis and back
Friday October 3rd
1218 engine hours at HdG
Found house battery low because plug not in all the way. Despite light need to make sure upper eel is seated horizontally correctly.
Empanada dinner. Split the chicken, Mexican street corn and rice bowl, plus spinach empanada and Laz had Korean BBQ and chicken BBQ empanadas.
Saturday October 4th
Off the docks by 10:30am. Happy Place met us at the entrance to our fairway and we chatted via VHF. Christiane was heading over to Worton first and was going to set anchor so we could raft up. Good wind initially
Dinner was a fancy mix of teriyaki chicken skewers, French bread and grilled corn from Christiane and Rana spinach ravioli from us, plus my homemade cookies and brownies for dessert
Worton
Sunday October 5th
Nice breakfast with Christiane of Oso chorizo manchego scones, clementines and yogurt with berries and granola.
Left just after 1130, good wind, but directly from ahead of us. Tacked a bit until the wind softened. Built to 7+kts near the Magothy and once under the bridge we sailed across to Kent Island then back to Annapolis.
Bert Jabins H3 by the last red well inside Back Creek 1224.4
Dinner with SMudge and Clark at Beacon. Outside dining, bug bites! Food was pretty good. Clark did not like his poke bowl.
Monday October 6th
Lay day at Jabin's for Nate , Roxy and Chuck to come by. Didn't sleep enough, too much in the brain racing, finished my thriller (DCI Boyd Gone to Ground). Not sure what time everyone was showing up. I baked plain croissants and made hard boiled eggs for breakfast. Nate came by around 0900 just in time to help us troubleshoot why the battery was not charging even though we had a solid connection to shore power. And it was working in HdG after we jiggled the eel. Turns out there was a faulty AC pin connector which was bent, Nate replaced it with a good connector then swapped out the 30 amp charger for the new and improved 50 amp charger which does not give interference on VHF 16 (we confirmed). He and Laz talked water makers and we shall see. While Nate was troubleshooting the charger not charging, Roxy came by and measured for new cushions for the cockpit, including for the driver seats.
We washed down baji-naji, as she hadn't had a good scrub since we got back to home port. She looks great!
Chuck came by around 5pm and measured for a new main. Always good to see him. We learned what the Velcro straps at the back of the boom are for the loop in the clew to keep the sail tight to the boom.
Jeff Cook came by at 6p and when we finished with Chuck we went to Main and Market for dinner. Pretty yummy appetizer burrata plate (burrata was not creamy enough but all else was good) and delicious Hungarian mushroom soup. Dinner was good, although the cupcakes we got for dessert were meh.
Home to baji-naji to watch Chris Berman and Booger McFarland on NFL Prime Time. Then got to see the end of the Chiefs at Jaguars game. Pretty exciting last 5 minutes!
Tuesday October 7th
Up at 0930. Corn muffin, Oso pecan chocolate scone and yogurt with blueberries and granola for breakfast. Off the docks by 10:30 or so. Breezy day once we got out of Back Creek.
Big wind = Big fun!
Except...as we motored out of the harbor we snagged a crab pot toggle on our rudder. Pretty rude as I was quite far and it was nowhere near it's crab pot. We went to neutral and floated and managed, with boat hook help, to clear the line. Laz tried to hail a passing crabber but he ignored us, so he hailed the Harbormaster to come check it out, as it is a hazard.
Wind of 12-15 and built to 18-20 kts. Started with full sails but when it hit 17-18 and we were close hauled we reefed one. I'd already pulled down on the backstay tensioner line. Rocking sail to Eastern Bay, then a lovely downwind portion where we saw Mystic Pearl coming towards us!!! Hailed Mario on the VHF and we promised to connect via email and hopefully say hello in Annapolis.
We did some upwind tacking to avoid the shoals and get into the Wye River. Sailed all the way to our favorite anchorage spot to find a red motor boat already here! Ah well, it's a big space. Dropped anchor in this lovely spot with a lovely breeze. No Boji ride, it's a bit windy and we are content to sit and read.
Wednesday October 8th
Rainy morning. Lot of wind. Lay day in the Wye. Lot of book reading and relaxing.
Sun came out for a short bit so I sat on the bow to read.
Thursday October 9th
More wind! 15-20. Downwind out of the Wye
Bert Jabin's Annapolis
Friday October 10th
Breakfast with Mario of Mystic Pearl at Black Market Bakery. Turns out his wife knows someone there, so they get many leftovers. It was wonderful to catch up in person, instead of just sailing past.
Boat Show! Always fun to wander and get info. Dinner with Fitz & friends
Saturday October 11th
Home to HdG.
