Sunday October 25th
Last trip for this season. Packing up and down to baji-naji just before 1600. Provisions and clothes stowed. I was going to make dinner, but we decided to try Kooper’s Saloon, in the old Larrapin Building.
As we went off to dinner, we saw the beautiful Hunter's moon framed by the masts of Aero. I got another picture with more boats from near the boat lift.
Kooper’s had a nice menu. The French Onion soup was great! Unfortunately the lobster roll was not. Not much lobster and it was overcooked and dry The chicken was overcooked and dry in Laz's sandwich as well. I gave feedback to our server; she was grateful for it.
It was quite chilly when we got back from dinner. We changed the setting from AC to heat and turned it on. It works! We watched Primetime with Chris Berman and Booger MacFarland on the laptop. Unfortunately Laz forgot the power cord for the laptop so we won't be able to stream the whole Sun night game, but we were able to listen on Sirius XM. When it was clear that the Seahawks were going to beat the 49ers, we turned it off and went to bed. I turned the heat off in both cabins as well.
Monday October 26th
Up at 0820 to a chilly morning! 40° outside and 52° inside! Turned the heat on again;it works beautifully. Went to make hot breakfast and coffee and the stove would not light. Hmmm. Rousted Laz out of bed and he changed propane tanks. It still wouldn't light. There is a light on the solenoid, but no click. So much for warm breakfast.
Laz went wire chasing at the tank and all through the aft cabin and the starboard cabinet where the solenoid is. I went next door to Dashaway, a power boat North Pacific next to us in Phoenix’s slip. Doug, the owner , normally keeps her at North Point Marina in Rock Hall and is having her hauled here. He let me put the kettle on his electric stove and we chit chatted while we were waiting for it to boil. He and his wife Patti live in Lawrenceville NJ, are recently retired and bought Dashaway in the Spring of 2025 in Texas. Bringing her up was his maiden voyage on her. Water boiled and I went back to baji-naji to make coffee.
It got warmer in the sun, the tool box had come out, and Laz was hard at it, splicing the wiring at the tank end. There was power at the switch, and none at the tank so he was hoping a splice would do it. To complicate things, he blew the solenoid fuse when putting the box back on the switch end. A quick run to the ship's store at the marina yielded a replacement fuse. We have many, just not that size, of course. When all was done, we tried the switch and it worked! Turned the propane tank on and the stove lit up properly. Wonderful! Put everything away and we were off the dock at 1230.
Mainsail up just after clearing the dock. Wind was from the S, in the direction we were going, so motored down the channel. Sails up, engine off at 1340. 7-8 kts of wind, we were going 6kts, really smoothly. Unfortunately the wind, which was supposed to be from the N, stayed due SW. We had some great sailing but with the late start, we furled the jib and put on the engine at 1550. A lovely day that warmed up to 69°. Got to Worton with anchor down at 1704.
Some beautiful fall colors as we came into Worton.
Sautéed some chicken, mushrooms and zucchini on the working (yay Laz!) stove, added a delicious artichoke dip on top and baked for 30 minutes while the sourdough rolls were baking.
We had dinner in the cockpit and enjoyed a gorgeous sunset, complete with a sailboat coming in. With the sun going down, it was getting chilly outside, so we headed below for warmth, some of Nomadic Pie’s excellent cherry pie (I froze a little one when they were in season), and to listen to Game 5 of the WNBA finals.
A beautiful Hunter's moon with a couple of stars visible. If the wind cooperates, we hope to get to the Choptank River and Hudson Creek tomorrow.
